Who can tell me what their favorite book? What was the story about?
As we read stories, it is important to listen for key elements. These important pieces of information can help us retell a specific story. Here are some of the things I want you to listen for while being read a book:
Title
Name of the story.
Characters
Who is in the story? Does the girl, boy, animal have a name?
Setting
Where are the characters? When does it take place? What month, time of day, season?
Plot
What happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story?
Problem
What went wrong? or What were the characters trying to solve?
Solution
How did the characters solve or fix the problem? Was a lesson learned?
